Tube Strike Highlights need for Remote Working Strategy
Tube strike highlights the need to companies to install effective remote working strategy, says Viatel
With the RMT confirming a 48hr tube strike in London today, thousands of workers in London will either face a nightmare journey into work over the next couple of days, or instead be forced to work from home. This can cause huge difficulties for many companies that have not put into place effective remote working systems, potentially causing two days lost work, something that could have crippling consequences in today’s economic climate.
Viatel, a leading business communications provider, believes that the strike, alongside other major events that have occurred this year such as the snow storms in February, and new legislation regarding flexible working rights for parents, should act as a wakeup call to UK businesses.
Companies have also begun to realise that there are large savings to be made with staff working from home. Offices can be shut, with no effect on employee productivity, something that is always appealing, particularly at a time when every penny counts.
Steve Powell, product manager, connectivity and security services at Viatel said. “With so many events occurring in the first half of this year, UK businesses must now begin to see the huge benefits of installing effective remote working strategies and Business Continuity plans.”
“There is no doubt that the next couple of days could cause a lot of difficulties for a lot of London workers. However, companies that have installed efficient remote working strategies will be able to take the problems in their stride, with employee productivity - on the whole - unaffected. Those that have yet to put such systems in place, are likely to learn a hard lesson, but one that should change their perceived negativity about the effectiveness of remote working.”
