Paul Rellis, CEO of Viatel, welcomed Gina to the Viatel team, “We are experiencing a period of very strong growth right across our business making this a very exciting time to join us. We know that people are what make a business and we are fortunate to have great people working for us. I am delighted to have a leader of the calibre of Gina join our team. We look forward to the leadership, focus and expertise that Gina will add as we pursue our ambitious strategy and continue to partner with the best in Irish and international business.”

Gina, a Chartered Accountant and Tax Consultant and a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, joins Viatel with an impressive financial career spent in New York and Dublin. She held positions with the Macquarie Group and PWC in New York before returning to Ireland. Gina formed part of the team that managed the sale of the Dublin-based online payments company, Realex, to Global Payments. She then joined the European Management Team of Global Payments, a worldwide provider of payment technology services.

Gina joins Viatel with a pedigree of strategic financial leadership experience. She takes on her new role with Viatel with immediate effect. Commenting on her appointment, Gina said “I am thrilled to take on this new opportunity with Viatel. I look forward to working with such a dynamic company in a period of such unprecedented growth. I am confident that the innovative capability and drive of the business is going to take it from strength to strength in the future.”

The appointment follows Viatel’s announcement last week of the acquisition of Nova Telecom, the Cork based data and voice service provider. The acquisition is Viatel’s third in just nine months, following deals to acquire Ripplecom and Irish Telecom late last year. The newly expanded Viatel Group now serves over 4,200 businesses across Ireland and 30,000 residential customers under the Digiweb brand.
