Name: Stephen Doyle

Job Title: Network Operations Manager

How long have you worked with us?

14 years

Tell us a little bit about your role please

I manage the Network Operations Centre and Network Engineering Teams in Viatel, responsible for the provisioning, maintenance and support of all customer services.

Give us the highlights tour of your career to date

I started with Viatel as part of a small Network Operations team, most of whom might I add, have also gone-on to achieve bigger and better things within Viatel.

As the company grew, I moved into a project management role, implementing a number of large-scale customer network deployments, achieving ISO27001 certification for our data centre as well as personally gaining PRINCE2 certification.

An engineer by trade, I missed the technical aspects of the role while working as a project manager, so when the opportunity arose, to move into a people leadership role with the Network Operations team, I jumped at it.

I have now managed the Network Operations Teams for the past seven years. In this time, the team has doubled in size. With the help of our in-house System Development team, I’ve also introduced a number of efficiencies, automations and tools, in order to help us scale quickly, which I’m particularly proud of.

What do you love most about working with Viatel?

The thing I love most is that we recognise the potential for every person within the company to add value and make a positive impact. Embracing a culture of inclusivity and diversity, where everyone is encouraged to contribute their ideas and perspectives, leads to innovation and growth, which in-turn, leads to a more positive experience for our customers.

Describe yourself in three words

Innovative, driven, genuine

Work Related: My previous role was as a Network Manager for connectivity start-up ICE Broadband, which was acquired by Ripplecom in 2010, who in-turn were acquired by Viatel in 2020

Non-Work Related: I love music, and play guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass guitar, drums and am currently self-learning piano. I also enjoy playing golf and aim to get to a single digit handicap this year.
