Viatel leads security campaign against fraudulent communication

Viatel Technology Group is making groundbreaking efforts to combat the menace of nuisance calls. As a leading cloud, security and communications provider, Viatel is dedicated to staying ahead of emerging threats and implementing advanced technologies to safeguard customers. Viatel has been working with industry stakeholders in the Nuisance Communications Industry Taskforce (NCIT) and is one of the first companies to complete the implementation of Fixed CLI Call Blocking to intercept and halt nuisance communications.

With three in four Irish adults reportedly receiving fraudulent calls, and an adverse impact being felt in the economy at large, the NCIT was formed by the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg). The primary objective of the NCIT is to safeguard individuals who experience inconvenience, confusion and even fear as a result of these calls. The taskforce also aims to restore trust in communications networks.

One tactic deployed by the taskforce is the use of Fixed CLI Call Blocking which blocks calls that originate abroad but present as Irish landline numbers. Call blocking effectively shuts the door on criminals using that tactic. According to ComReg’s recently published update on the issue, NCIT members blocked over one million suspect calls in March alone.

Eilish O Connor, CTO of Viatel, said “Security and trust are central to our operations at Viatel. We recognise the importance of restoring trust and ensuring the security of our customers. Our senior voice specialists, Eoghan Devlin and Luke Brennan, are active participants in the NCIT, contributing technical leadership within the group. They ensure we take a proactive stance in protecting our customers and remain focused on the fight against fraud.”

Eilish concludes “It is a huge challenge for companies and individuals to preserve their security. At Viatel, we are dedicated to staying ahead of emerging threats and implementing advanced technologies to safeguard our customers. We will continue to work closely with the NCIT, ComReg, and other industry stakeholders to develop and deploy further measures that combat fraudulent activities.”
